Despair.

In the sky is the gloom of night,
When the heavens are sundered
From the eyes of men
And the stars like smouldering embers die.
A silence broods in the shadows,
And life on a candle flickers, the
Flames no longer burning bright.
Then misery crashes as a tide,
Its crest bearing sorrow and pain,
And it washes away the present
In an icy flood of guilt.
When you are all but forgotten,
The stilled voices shall come unbidden,
From the deep reaches of the mind.
They echo in the haunted corridors,
Keening softly to the chimes of night.
And all that you know is the dew
Clinging to your eyes,
And the whispers of soft regret that
Never were heard...
